Dog Socialization Enrichment Program

ARFLA seeks a special group of volunteers to start a new socialization enrichment program.  We need dog loving and caring individuals to help us socialize the shy dogs who are currently residing at ARFLA.  The enrichment program is designed to increase adoptability while helping dogs establish confidence and maintain their mental wellbeing.

ARFLA’s Socialization Enrichment Program is intended to help dogs adapt to all types of situations such as unfamiliar people, various environments, and novel objects to prepare them for a smooth transition into their forever home.  Most of our dogs over the years received their socialization skills when brought out to adoption events; since COVID19 we have been unable to bring the dogs out in public and therefore most of the younger dogs have not been able to learn these skills.

Volunteers will begin with regular visits to our ARFanage property in Sunset to interact with the dog(s) to help them get more comfortable with you and build a bond.

Second step would be to take the dog out on Field Trips.

  • Take them out for a car ride, and maybe a puppuccino at Starbucks or similar!
  • Take them on a leash walk at a local park.
  • Take them with you to local businesses that accept dogs; we will provide you with a list.
  • Have a date night at home.
  • Have a slumber party at home.

Volunteers are encouraged to work on training commands with the dog which we can train you on also; be brushed and loved on! The human interaction that the dogs get through this volunteer socialization helps prevent aggressive behavior, as well depression.
